In researching my wife's family tree I have discovered Irish connections.
James Gubby of Co Tyrone convicted and sentenced to transportation to Van Daemons Land (Tasmania) in 1816. He arrived on 23/08/1817 aged 21. He was then resident in Hobarts Town.
William Gubby of Co Tyrone (born 1798) was tried for Larcency from a person and sentenced to transportation for 15 years in July 1841.
William Gubby of Co Waterford (born 1781) was tried and sentenced for robbery also in July 1841 to 7 years transportation. (Court records show that he supported 3 elder brothers)
I have been only able to trace to date that one of these Williams arrived in Tasmania arriving 2 Aug 1842. A convict William G is listed (1847) as having skills of weaving linen or woolen cloth.
I have had trouble as records differ in ages and other detail etc.
So I potentially have 8 James Gubbys, 3 Josephs and 3 Williams all located in Tasmania. I have no doubt that these will merge if I can find more detail.
