My name is John Adank and I am a New Zealander, currently serving as New Zealand's High Commissioner (Ambassador in a British Commonwealth country) to Samoa, in the South Pacific Ocean.
The Adank family I know originally came from Grisons/Graubunden, but my particular branch of the family ended up in Luzcern at some point, from where they emigrated to NZ towards the end of the 19th century.
My great grandfather was called Florian who after spending time in Australia ended up in New Zealand around the turn of the 20th century/end of the 19th century, at which time he married a widow, grace poole, and had a son, Florian Perry.
My grandfather, Florian Perry had around 11 children, including my father William john, born in 1924 who died in 1976.
My father William (Bill) served in the New Zealand air force in the second world war and was stationed in the South Pacific, primarily thje Solomon Islands and Papua New guinea. It was around this time (1943-45) that he met up with a Swiss ex-patriate who said that she knew his surname and suggested that he contact the Swiss consul in New Zealand to locate members of his grandfather's family.
My father did this on his return to New Zealand and was delighted to find that he in "'uncle" (but I think possibly a cousin of his father's) Ulrich Adank, who had a daugher Johanna. Ulrich had been a jeweller in Luzern Switzerland and had a daugher Johanna who my family corresponded with until her death in around 1979. i think the family jwewley business may have been known as Kottman-adank.
Johanna lived her last years at the Elizabethanheim, a home for the elderly in Luzcern. Since her death, my family have essentially lost track of any direct relatives who are surviving in Switzerland.
I am very interested to hear from any other members of my family in Switzerland. I have only limited memories of the family tree (wlathough it is somewhere back in NZ). i do recall that there was a cousin of Johanna's called jennie KRIEG, who i think ended up in Spain as a result of her husbands worj with nestle.
However, that's where things come to a bit of an end.
i would appreciate any further information anyone can provide me with on the family and howe I can obtain a copy of the family tree.
